Civil Defence Officer Arraigned for Alleged Misappropriation of ₦1.7m

A Deputy Superintendent of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Sani Yakubu, has been arraigned before the Kaduna State High Court over allegations of diverting ₦1.7 million belonging to a woman he officially represented. ICPC brought a three-count charge against him, anchored on breach of trust and unlawful conversion.

Yakubu’s appearance before Justice Isiaka took an unexpected turn when he reportedly broke down and admitted to the allegations without contest. The funds in question were entrusted to him on behalf of Mrs. Vennica Idoko, according to the charge sheet presented by the commission.

The court fixed November 12, 2025, for judgment and possible sentencing, a decision that could set a significant example for cases involving abuse of official authority. ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare said the agency would continue pushing for accountability among public officers who take advantage of their positions.

This development comes against the backdrop of similar prosecutions, including the March 2025 arraignment of former Foreign Affairs senior official Christiana Goka, who faced a five-count charge linked to misappropriated public funds.
