Chief of Army Staff, Lagbaja, Passes Away at 56
The federal government has announced the death of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the country’s Chief of Army Staff, who passed away in Lagos on Tuesday night after a brief illness.
A statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the news on Wednesday. Lt. General Lagbaja, aged 56, was appointed Chief of Army Staff by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, 2023.
Lt. General Lagbaja’s death is seen as a notable loss for Nigeria’s military and the nation.
Meanwhile, the acting Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, is projected to officially assume the role following his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, November 6, 2024.
