Trump Declares Win In US Election


Donald Trump appears close to winning a second term in office as President of the United States, securing three crucial battleground states shortly after polls closed.

According to recent election reports, Trump currently leads with 267 electoral votes and 51.2% of the popular vote, while Kamala Harris holds 214 electoral votes with 47.4%. Harris faced possible paths to the 270 electoral votes needed for victory, but losses in North Carolina and Georgia by early hours of Wednesday which dealt a significant blow to her campaign. Pennsylvania’s results followed one hour later, further narrowing her chances.

Vote counting is still underway in Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada.

At a Harris watch party at Howard University in Washington, DC, senior campaign adviser Cedric Richmond announced that Harris would address her supporters the following day. Meanwhile, jubilant scenes unfolded in Palm Beach, where Trump supporters gathered in anticipation of remarks from the Republican nominee. Trump, joined by his family and vice-presidential running mate JD Vance, addressed his supporters around 2:30 a.m.

The U.S. election outcome is being closely monitored by global investors, with an eye on its economic impact, especially in Asia. Asian stock indexes mostly rose, and the U.S. dollar saw gains. Still, final results could take several days, as counts in critical swing states continue.
