Bomadi Councillors Defy Pressure, Sustain EFCC Petition Over ₦800m

Fifteen councillors of the Bomadi Local Government Council in Delta State have refused to back down from their petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial misconduct by Council Chairman, Hon. Dagidi Andaye, despite pressure from state-level officials.

Sources said the councillors rejected a proposal presented at a meeting in Asaba that sought the reinstatement of impeached legislative leaders and the withdrawal of the EFCC petition. The meeting, attended by top government officials and both factions of the council, reportedly ended without agreement.

The petition centres on an alleged unapproved N800 million loan obtained from a commercial bank, which the councillors insist remains the core issue. According to insiders, the matter was not substantively discussed during the meeting, even as pressure mounted on the lawmakers to abandon the complaint.

A senior party figure in the state expressed concern over the handling of the crisis, questioning why serious financial allegations were being sidelined. He also raised alarm over claims that councillors were threatened with arrest if they failed to comply with the proposed resolution.
