Bandits Strike Katsina Communities, Kill Police Officer, Injure Two
Panic swept through parts of Matazu Local Government Area in Katsina State on Sunday after armed bandits launched coordinated attacks on two communities, leaving a police officer dead and two civilians injured. The violence, carried out in broad daylight, also resulted in the destruction of property valued at millions of naira.
Residents said the attackers began their attack in Sayaya town, where they razed a community healthcare centre and looted goods before setting several shops ablaze. The assault intensified when the gunmen stormed a police station, killing an officer identified as Suleiman Bishir, and moved on to vandalise additional facilities while carting away valuables.
A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, indicated that the attackers executed multiple strikes across key locations, including a primary healthcare facility. The scale of destruction has left many residents counting heavy losses.
The violence later spread to Dankawari town, where a vehicle was also burned. Authorities are yet to issue an official response, as tension lingers across the affected communities.
