Attack on Fishermen Leaves Three Dead in Isoko Community
At least three persons have been confirmed dead after an attack on residents of Okpolo-Enhwe community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, with several others reportedly injured.
According to sources within the community, the victims were attacked in the early hours of Wednesday while attending to their fishing nets. The development has created fear among residents, forcing some to leave their homes in search of safety.
The President-General of Okpolo-Enhwe, Chief Kennedy Idolo, confirmed the incident, stating that two of the victims died at the scene of the attack, while another later collapsed and died after going into shock.
He identified two of the deceased as Okoro and Okoeta, adding that the victims were married fishermen in the community. Idolo also noted that while arrangements were initially made to deposit the bodies in a morgue, the families requested that they be buried immediately.
Following the incident, security operatives were reportedly deployed to the community to restore calm and prevent further disturbances, as tension continues to linger in the area.
Reacting to the development, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said he was yet to receive an official report of the incident but promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer in the area for confirmation.
Authorities have not yet provided details about the injured persons or the circumstances that led to the attack.
