Atiku, Obi, Others Pay Final Respects to Buhari in Daura

Tributes have continued to pour in for former President Muhammadu Buhari as top political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, visited his final resting place in Daura, Katsina State, on Wednesday.

Buhari, who died on Sunday in London at the age of 81, was laid to rest in the garden of his Daura residence, a place where he was known to spend quiet moments of reflection. A former military ruler and two-term civilian president, he remains one of Nigeria’s most influential political figures.

During Wednesday’s visit, Atiku paid tribute to Buhari, calling him a man of discipline and strong conviction who devoted his life to serving the nation as both a soldier and a statesman. Peter Obi also commended the late leader’s commitment to Nigeria, urging unity in this moment of national reflection.

Security was tight around Daura as more sympathisers and delegations arrived from across the country to pay their last respects. The emirate council also held special prayers in honour of Buhari’s life and legacy.

Flags across Nigeria continue to fly at half-mast in honour of the late leader, while condolence registers remain open in major government buildings and Nigerian embassies abroad.
