APC Delta North Renews Demand for Creation of Anioma State

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North have renewed calls for the creation of Anioma State, urging the National Assembly to address what they call a long-standing injustice in Nigeria’s state structure, particularly in the South-East. The group said the move would correct the geopolitical imbalance that has left the South-East with only five states.

In a letter dated November 3, 2025, and signed by its Chairman, Chief Adizue Eluaka, the APC Delta North Senatorial District said the demand reflects the collective will of the people of Delta North. Eluaka noted that there was no dissenting voice across the district, adding that the agitation is rooted in the historical and cultural identity of the Anioma people.

He commended Senator Ned Nwoko for sponsoring the bill pushing for the creation of Anioma State, saying the legislative effort has given the movement new momentum. According to him, the proposal remains the most comprehensive state-creation bill before the National Assembly and enjoys broad national support.

Eluaka also recalled the suffering of the Anioma people during the civil war due to their perceived Igbo identity, noting that the creation of Anioma State would serve as an act of healing, fairness, and historical justice.
