FUPRE Issues New Student Rules Following Campus Unrest
The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), has introduced a series of academic and administrative measures following recent disturbances that disrupted campus activities. The directives were issued after an emergency Senate meeting and communicated through a notice signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Senate, Dr. (Mrs.) E. Jane Omoyine.
Under the new measures, students in 100, 200, and 300 levels will sit for examinations one week before the resumption of the 2025/2026 academic session in November. This staggered schedule is intended to minimize disruptions and ensure a smooth return to academic activities. Students are also required to submit a letter of undertaking promising good behavior before registration is allowed.
The university has prohibited undergraduates from driving personal vehicles on campus starting October 31, 2025, and introduced a ₦7,500 levy per student to help cover costs related to property repairs and enhanced security measures following the unrest.
FUPRE stressed that the new regulations are mandatory and urged students to comply fully. The management stated that the actions are designed to protect institutional property, restore order, and maintain an environment conducive to learning, while assuring the campus community that efforts are ongoing to return to normalcy.
