AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY MURDER: STILL NO WORD FROM ALEX’S FATHER, ROBERT AKRO

Fresh information has continued to emerge about the identities of parents of the student gruesomely murdered by fellow students of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State on Saturday May 25,2024.

According to information obtained by Warri Sentinel from one of Alex’s School Fees Payment Receipts (as recent as October 2023), his full names was given as Akro Jeffrey Chamuke. His Email Address was given as timeyinalex789@gmail.com. 

This confirms the gist circulating on social media that late Jeffrey was both an Uvwie and Warri Kingdom royalty. According to a family member who spoke on condition of anonymity, Prince Robert Akro, father of late Jeffrey is “grieving and seething over the issue. He has not been in this country over a decade as we speak. The man is devastated. Jeffrey is the only child both of them had together before he went abroad. I am not sure if he has spoken with the mother of the boy because he only started sending money to them just last year here”, our Source revealed.

On the other hand, the mother of the deceased, Princess Antonia Emiko is a socialite. She is an aunt to the current Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR.

This reporter gathered that it was after huge outcry on social media from popular Warri figures that the Ajayi Crowther University authority started making efforts to contact the mother of the deceased who resides in Abuja with her other children. 

According to a Source close to the mother, “the most painful part of this story is that Antonia got to know about this on social media, instead of the school authority. Are they planning on covering this up? No way. We will drag Ajayi Crowther University until we get justice for our Alex.”

There has been outrage on social media since the news of the gruesome killing of a student of Ajayi Crowther University; name first reported as Alex Timileyin by the Punch Reporter who first flew the news on Saturday, May 25, 2024. 

According to several eyewitness reports, the barbaric incident occurred at the deceased’s Hostel, Shepherd’s Inn hostel. His assailants forcibly stripped him, shaved his head, and subjected him to a prolonged gang torture from 10pm of Friday May 24, to 6am on Saturday May 25, 2024 over an alleged phone theft case. 

The manner of the despicable crime was also corroborated by popular blogger Gistlover who released gory clips of the torture via its Telegram channel.

The victim was discovered lifeless in front of his hostel on Saturday morning hours after he had been abandoned to die in the rain by his assailants. 

The nature of Jeffrey Akro’s death is reminiscent of the activities of cult groups in off-campuses in Nigerian tertiary institutions. They resort to torture of victims who refuse to join their fraternity. Any Good Samaritan who comes to the rescue of such victims will be severely dealt with in same similar or even worse fashion.

The deceased’s best friend, Okorie Samuel Maduabuchukwu is yet to be arrested as the Oyo State Government said via their X account that investigation has commenced.
