Bus Drivers Block Lagos–Benin Expressway After Police Officer Shoots Tire

Bus drivers in Ore, Ondo State, on Tuesday blocked a section of the Lagos–Benin Expressway after a police officer allegedly shot a vehicle’s tire at a checkpoint. The area is known for frequent security stops, and the incident quickly angered other drivers.

They used their buses to form a barricade around police trucks and insisted that the officer replace the damaged tire, reportedly worth about ₦150,000. The standoff caused heavy traffic as motorists struggled to pass through the blockade.

The protest drew a crowd and renewed public complaints about police extortion on highways. Many commuters said the confrontation was a sign of the growing tension between drivers and security personnel. Police authorities had yet to issue any official statement at the time of this report.
