Abia Rep, Alex Ikwechegh Under Fire For Assaulting E-Hailing Driver
A member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh has gone viral after a video surfaced showing the politician assaulting an e-hailing driver delivering a package to his residence in Maitama, Abuja. The driver, who has not been identified, recorded the confrontation on his phone, capturing the distressing exchange that unfolded
In the video, Ikwechegh, who represents the Aba North & South Federal Constituency for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), can be seen visibly angered when the driver asks him to come outside to receive a package containing snails. The politician reacts with a barrage of slaps and insults, claiming that the driver’s request was disrespectful given his social status.
“Do you know who I am? I can make this man disappear in the whole of Nigeria and nothing will happen,” Ikwechegh is heard saying, He threatens physical violence, stating, “I will do that myself. I will show that I am a big brother to you,” and further escalating the situation with derogatory remarks.
The driver, clearly shaken, pleads for his delivery fee, only to be met with further aggression. “Do you know who I am I just slapped you and there’s nothing you will do. My name is Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, tell them (public) I slapped you. Call the Inspector General of Police that I slapped you, let him come. Record me very well,” he boasted.
As the video continues to circulate on social media, calls for accountability and justice for the assaulted driver are growing louder. Citizens and advocacy groups are demanding a thorough investigation into the incident, raising concerns over the treatment of service workers and the abuse of power by public officials.
The police have yet to comment on the incident.
