Police Respond to Viral Video of Rep Member Assaulting Driver
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed an investigation into an incident involving a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, and Hon. Alexander Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives. The altercation took place on Sunday, October 27, in Maitama, Abuja.
Following the incident, Abuwatseya filed an official report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters.
Warri Sentinel previously reported how Alex Ikwechegh, member of House of Representatives went viral after a video surfaced showing the politician assaulting Stephen Abuwatseya, an e-hailing driver delivering a package to his residence in Maitama, Abuja.
Abuwatseya recorded the confrontation on his phone, capturing the unfolding distressing exchange.
Ikwechegh boasted of his strong influence over the police: “My name is Honourable Alex Ikwechegh. Tell them (public) I slapped you. Call the Inspector General of Police that I slapped you, let him come. Record me very well,” he remarked.
In response to the incident, the police issued a warning to the public against using the name or office of the Inspector-General of Police to intimidate others, stating that such actions undermine the integrity and impartiality of the IGP’s office.
