Akwa Ibom Assembly Dismisses Viral Bill on Married Men Affairs
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has rejected claims circulating on social media that it plans to criminalise sexual relationships with married men.
A Facebook post alleged that a proposed bill, supposedly backed by Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi, would jail women for 10 years while fining men ₦2 million. The Assembly has denied the report.
In a statement, House Committee on Information Chairman, Jerry Otu, said no such bill exists and accused the authors of attempting to damage the Assembly’s reputation.
The lawmakers urged the public to ignore the claim, reaffirming their commitment to responsible lawmaking and institutional integrity.
