Court Sets Dec. 8 Hearing on Nnamdi Kanu’s Prison Transfer Request

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed December 8 for hearing an ex parte motion filed by Nnamdi Kanu, seeking his transfer from the Sokoto Correctional Facility where he is currently being held. Kanu, recently convicted on seven terrorism charges and given a life sentence, was relocated from Kuje Prison after concerns over past jailbreaks.

At Thursday’s proceedings, Justice James Omotosho declined to hear the motion because Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel, attempted to appear on his behalf. The judge stated that only a legal practitioner can represent a convict in such a matter.

Omotosho advised the family to engage a lawyer or approach the Legal Aid Council for assistance. He further clarified that Kanu does not need to be physically present for the compilation of his appeal records, urging the public to avoid spreading misinformation.
