PDP Expels Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Others as NEC Resets Party Structure

The Peoples Democratic Party has carried out one of its most far-reaching disciplinary actions in years, expelling several high-profile members, including Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed and Dauda Lawal. Former top party figures such as Adolphus Wabara, Bode George, Udom Emmanuel, Taofeek Arapaja and Kabiru Tanimu Turaki were also removed following allegations of actions deemed harmful to the party’s stability.

At its 103rd NEC meeting in Abuja, the party approved the dissolution of the executive committees in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Lagos, Yobe and Ekiti, while the Edo State executive was left untouched. NEC said the decisions became necessary after some members allegedly defied court directives and convened an unauthorised convention that triggered turmoil in several states.

The committee confirmed Mohammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman and tasked the party’s legal team with initiating constitutional steps to reclaim seats occupied by defectors. NEC also directed Ali Odefa to refund salaries and allowances earned after his earlier expulsion and endorsed Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck as Acting National Vice Chairman for the South-East.

A nationwide reconciliation programme and membership audit were approved as the party prepares for the 2027 elections. NEC insisted that the latest actions signal a firm return to discipline and that the party will no longer tolerate conduct that undermines its internal order.
