Oborevwori Commissions New Housing Estate in Okuama

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Tuesday commissioned a newly built housing cluster in Okuama, Ughelli South, signalling the first major step in the community’s recovery after the March 2024 incident that led to its devastation.

Represented by Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, the governor said the project marks a transition from grief to rebuilding for families forced out of their homes.

He noted that although the community’s wounds remain fresh, the state is committed to restoring dignity and stability through the MORE Agenda. The new settlement features 40 room spaces, blocks of toilets and bathrooms, a solar-powered water system and a covered walkway linking the buildings. Oborevwori urged residents to safeguard the facilities and embrace unity to ensure lasting peace.

Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government, Lucky Avweromre, said the resettlement centre was constructed by the council, praising the state government for complementing the effort with a primary school, secondary school and healthcare centre. He said the project demonstrates government’s resolve to rebuild the community from the ground up.

Representatives of the Okuama community, Okrika Emmanuel and Comrade Akemor Victor, thanked the governor for intervening at a time they had lost hope. They said the tragedy of March 14 would have been far worse without government support and pledged their commitment to peace and cooperation as the community starts afresh.
