PDP Expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu at National Convention in Ibadan

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several senior members, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose, and suspended National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The decision, made at the party’s National Convention in Ibadan, is one of the most extensive disciplinary actions in recent PDP history.

The motion, supported by delegates with little opposition, also affected other key figures, including national officers and former lawmakers. Party leaders said the move was necessary to address persistent internal divisions and anti-party activities that had undermined cohesion.

For months, tensions had escalated between factions loyal to Wike and the party establishment, with public disputes, litigation, and competing power blocs complicating efforts to stabilise the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The convention went ahead despite a court injunction barring certain candidates and restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the event. A faction led by Umar Damagun proceeded with the meeting, signaling a push to consolidate authority and close a chapter of internal disputes.
