Delta Assembly Passes Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2024

The Delta State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2024, following its third reading at a plenary session in Asaba, presided over by Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor.

The bill, which was originally slated for consideration in the Committee of the Whole, was given expedited consideration and passed after a motion by Majority Leader Mr. Emeka Nwaobi to suspend certain Standing Rules of the Assembly was unanimously adopted. The motion, seconded by Mr. Frank Esenwah (PDP-Oshimili North), allowed the Assembly to take immediate action on the bill.

In a statement after the passage of the bill, Speaker Guwor stressed the significant impact the new law would have on improving electricity supply in Delta State, which he said would boost economic activities and improve the standard of living for residents. He commended the lawmakers for their dedication and efforts throughout the legislative process.

“The passage of this bill is a key milestone in enhancing the power sector in our state,” Guwor stated. “It will promote the well-being of the people and contribute to the overall development of Delta State.”

Once signed into law, the bill is expected to support long-term improvements in the state’s electricity infrastructure and provide a foundation for economic growth.
