Oborevwori Presents N936bn 2025 Budget to Delta State Assembly
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday, November 14, presented a N936.08 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.
Oborevwori described the budget as a “Budget of Fiscal Consolidation,” outlined that it comprises N348.7 billion for recurrent expenditure (37.25%) and N587.36 billion for capital expenditure (62.75%). The proposed budget represents a 29% increase over the N725 billion allocated in 2024, a rise of N211 billion.
He attributed the increase to a realignment of the exchange rate, which has led to higher allocations from the Federation Account (FAAC) and improved state revenues. He also noted that internal revenue generation had strengthened in the past year.
Addressing the Assembly, the Governor said the 2025 budget was designed to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal, with provisions for social protection, rural infrastructure, agriculture, food security, and support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“The 2025 Budget focuses on continued provision of physical infrastructure, human capital development, job creation, wealth creation, and poverty reduction in our dear state” he remarked.
The Governor urged the state lawmakers to expedite the passage of the appropriation bill.
In his response, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor commended the Governor for his pragmatic governance and the continuation and completion of projects inherited from the previous administration. He also praised Oborevwori’s fiscal discipline, highlighting his efforts in saving over N500 million during his tenure as Speaker and safeguarding over N14 billion for local governments.
Speaker Guwor called for a more collaborative approach to budget planning between the Executive and Legislature, urging ministries and government agencies to fully cooperate during budget defence sessions to ensure timely approval.
The motion for the adoption of the budget was moved by Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, and seconded by Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, representing Ika North East Constituency.
The budget presentation was attended by the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, and members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere.
