Youths Demolish Church in Ughelli After Pastor’s Alleged Sex Scandal
Youths in Afiesere community, Ughelli, Delta State, have taken down a church linked to Pastor Friday Utti following allegations of an improper relationship between the pastor and a married woman, sparking outrage and unrest within the community.
The demolition occurred while church activities were reportedly ongoing, with groups of young men on motorcycles dismantling the building’s metal roof, pillars, chairs, and banners. Videos of the attack quickly spread on social media, capturing the intense response from the community.
The controversy began after a married woman publicly accused Pastor Utti and other men of having affairs with her. The situation worsened when the woman died last week following a brief illness. Mr. Anthony Egbe, who identifies himself as her husband, shared a widely circulated testimony linking her death to her involvement with the pastor. Some members of the community believe traditional Urhobo ancestral justice may have played a role, although no medical or legal confirmation has been provided.
At this time, no official statements have been made by Delta State authorities or security agencies regarding the church demolition or the allegations against the pastor.
