Workers Injured in Early Morning Building Collapse in Lagos
Five construction workers narrowly survived when a partially completed two-storey building collapsed early Thursday at 5 Modupe Ola Street, Onipetesi Estate, Mangoro, Lagos. The workers sustained various injuries and are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
According to emergency responders, the incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. during a light rainfall that had persisted for days. The structure, originally a bungalow, was being converted into a two-storey residence while still housing occupants on the ground floor.
Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service officials arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call and managed to rescue all trapped individuals. The affected section was the rear of the building, which gave way suddenly, prompting swift evacuation.
Authorities confirmed the situation has been stabilized. Responders from Ikeja and Agege Fire Stations participated in the operation. An investigation into the structural integrity and approval status of the building is expected to follow.
