Wike, Ortom Risk Suspension as PDP NEC Holds Crucial Meeting

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is set to decide the fate of key figures, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and former Benue governor Samuel Ortom, as its National Executive Committee (NEC) meets in Abuja today. Both men were named in petitions submitted to the party’s disciplinary committee, which has reportedly recommended sanctions for alleged anti-party activities during the last general elections.

The Tom Ikimi-led committee had investigated several prominent members accused of undermining the party, and its findings have been handed over to the National Working Committee (NWC) ahead of today’s session. Sources within the NWC say the issue will be thoroughly debated, with strong calls emerging for disciplinary action to preserve party discipline and unity.

Wike’s growing estrangement from the party has intensified tensions, particularly after he openly rejected the planned national convention and insisted on recognition for a disputed zonal congress backed by his loyalists. Once a major force within the PDP, Wike is now viewed by many insiders as a disruptive element, with former allies distancing themselves amid concerns over his continued criticism of party leadership.

Although a final decision on suspensions may not be taken immediately, today’s NEC meeting is expected to set the tone for firm action. Party leaders argue that failing to confront internal sabotage could damage the PDP’s credibility ahead of future elections, and believe the NEC must reassert control to maintain order within its ranks.
