Dangote Truck Accident Claims 8 Lives in Asaba

A tragic accident involving a Dangote truck claimed multiple lives in Asaba, Delta State, on Monday. The truck reportedly lost control near Oko Market, close to the Onitsha Toll Gate, around 11:15 a.m., ploughing into traders and pedestrians. Eyewitnesses confirmed that at least eight people were killed on the spot, while several others sustained serious injuries.

Victims were rushed to St. Rebecca Hospital in Mami Market, Asaba, where emergency responders and hospital staff battled to save lives. The scene of the accident was described as chaotic, with traders abandoning goods to assist the injured.

This latest tragedy comes only weeks after another Dangote truck was linked to a fatal incident involving Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija star Phyna. That case stirred public outrage and renewed calls for stricter safety standards for heavy-duty trucks.

The repeated accidents have reignited national debates over the operations of Dangote Group trucks and the safety of road users across Nigeria.

I just got a call today 26-07-2025 about this accident. My niece’s two children and her husband was at the pedestrian and was hit by this dangote truck. Two out of the three children and their father was killed. These incidents has gone too far and the frequency is too high. Is it that dangote hires cheap uneducated drivers. Why is it that over 90% of there drivers are his people? Is there more to it than meet the eye?. I think it is time Dangote himself should address these issues. It is time we are told what is going on. It is time we are made to understand the truth behind all these “killings”. Are other countries like this?. Don’t they have heavy duty vehicles in other countries?. Do they lose their lives carelessly like us on our roads. Dangote SHOULD SPEAK UP.
