Warri South Legislative Arm Denies Claims of Supplementary Budget Increase

The Warri South Local Government Council’s Legislative Arm has dismissed claims circulating on a pseudonymous Facebook account that the Council’s 2024 supplementary budget was increased from N4 billion to N6 billion.

In a statement issued on Monday, 9 September, the Legislative Arm clarified that the actual supplementary budget amounting to N6,165,740,654.87 was passed following extensive deliberation and scrutiny by Council members.

Hon. Jolomi Ojighoro, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, addressed the allegations, stating “The serious nature of our work requires accurate reporting. Unfounded claims, if left unchallenged, could be mistaken for truth. It is crucial to correct these inaccuracies and expose those behind these falsehoods.”

In a chat with Warri Sentinel, the Deputy Leader, of Warri South Legislative Arm, Honourable Emmanuel Egbe also confirmed that the allegations were untrue. Egbe asserts that the Chairman of the House Committee on Information has addressed the allegations put out by the proxy account.

The Legislative Arm further stressed that the supplementary budget was meticulously reviewed by the finance and appropriation committee and subsequently ratified by the entire House to ensure transparency.

The statement also revealed that the Executive and Legislative Arms are collaborating effectively to implement the budget for the benefit of the Warri South community, and vowed to uphold their oversight functions to ensure good governance and accountability
