VeryDarkMan Regains Freedom from EFCC Custody
Social media influencer, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after spending five days in detention.
Otse was released to his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, on Wednesday evening. The EFCC stated that the detention followed multiple petitions submitted by unnamed individuals, alleging financial misconduct.

Otse was arrested last Friday in what some observers described as a forceful operation. The arrest prompted a wave of criticism and support on social media platforms, with hashtags such as #FreeVeryDarkMan and #JusticeForVDM trending for several days.
Recall on Tuesday, May 6, the activist had been questioned over public allegations he made against the EFCC, in which he accused the agency of corruption. According to legal sources, the interrogation focused largely on his social media content.
The EFCC confirmed Otse’s release in a statement, stating that he had been granted administrative bail and would be released upon meeting bail conditions. The commission added that previous attempts to contact him for questioning had been unsuccessful, and that his arrest was conducted under a valid remand order.
The commission denied that his detention was linked to his critical views of the agency, maintaining that its actions were based solely on allegations under investigation.
