Uzodimma Partners with NNPCL to Combat Crude Oil Theft, Boost Production
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, also Chairman of the Crude Oil Theft and Management Committee, has confirmed that the committee is working in close partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to ramp up crude oil production. The aim is to reach a daily output of three million barrels, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s target for the nation’s oil industry.
Speaking after a meeting with governors from oil-producing states, as well as senior officials from NNPCL and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) in Abuja, Uzodimma said that recent data points to a positive trend in production. He added that the National Economic Council had recently requested an update on progress made in addressing crude oil theft and improving output. “The upward trend in production is a result of coordinated efforts by government agencies, security forces, and state actors,” he said.
The closed-door session was held to review strategies and work plans presented by the new leadership of NNPCL and NUPRC. Uzodimma expressed confidence in the direction of these plans, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration with NNPCL management to ensure that the country meets its production targets. The governor also praised President Tinubu for his leadership, which he said is already beginning to show positive effects in the oil and gas sector.
