Ughelli Old Boys Secure Division One Cricket Crown
Government College Ughelli Old Boys have emerged champions of the Division One league after a dramatic final-day performance in the Super Four play-offs. They sealed the title with a narrow two-wicket win over Lagos Cricket Club, ending the round-robin series with five points from two victories in three matches.
Lagos Cricket Club also secured promotion, finishing second on net run rate after tying on three points with Thunderbolts. Lagos Asians placed fourth in the Super Four standings, managing just a single point in the campaign.
Attention has now shifted to the Premier Division Super Six at the Tafawa Balewa Square Oval, where the title race is underway following the relegation of Super Eagles and Rocks of Abeokuta at the end of the regular season. Contenders include Government College Ibadan, Foundation CC, Ibeju Lekki CC, Island Titans, FGC Warri Old Students and defending champions Rising Stars.
Rising Stars opened their defence with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Foundation CC. Government College Ibadan edged FGC Warri Old Students by eight runs in another fixture, while FGC Warri later responded with a seven-wicket triumph against Island Titans.
