Ughelli North Council Suspends Taskforce Over Extortion Allegations
The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has announced the suspension of the Council’s Taskforce which was established to address illegal parking of vehicles, tricycles (Keke) and environmental sanitation at the Ughelli Main Market.
The suspension was confirmed in a statement released on Monday October 21, by the Secretary to Ughelli Local Government, Unuavworho Irikefe Goodluck, on behalf of Jaro Egbo.
This decision follows allegations that some members of the taskforce were extorting money from road users and market traders by misusing the name of the Executive Chairman.
In the statement, Egbo emphasized that all activities of the taskforce are now suspended until a new, properly constituted body is established. He also urged members of the suspended taskforce to cease any harassment or extortion of the public immediately.
