Sources familiar with the discussions say both parties have been tasked with outlining the terms of a peace deal, which includes the reinstatement of Fubara as the governor of Rivers State.
In March, rising political unrest in Rivers State led President Tinubu to suspend Fubara, his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Odu and all elected members of the House of Assembly of Rivers State from office for six months and impose emergency rule. Justifying the decision as essential to restoring order, the president temporarily set aside the constitutional framework and appointed Retired Rear Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas to administer the state.
