TIB Raises Alarm Over Alleged Police Misconduct in Sapele

The Delta State chapter of the Take It Back Movement (TIB) has expressed concern over alleged police brutality, unlawful detention, and selective enforcement of the law following protests in Sapele.

In a statement issued in Asaba, the movement said the demonstrations in Sapele were triggered by accusations of police misconduct and claims that illegal police structures were operating in the area, allegedly linked to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Sunday Okeke Wankego.

TIB alleged that a complainant who reported an assault in Sapele was directed to move between police stations in Sapele and Asaba but was eventually detained, while the alleged main suspect failed to present himself for questioning.

The group warned that the handling of the case pointed to abuse of authority and injustice, calling for an impartial investigation, the release of anyone unlawfully detained, and full compliance with presidential directives on police deployment.
