Chevron Operations Halted as Olero Creek Communities Act
Operations at Chevron Nigeria Limited’s Dibi/Olero fields in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State were shut down on Tuesday after host communities carried out an earlier threat over alleged neglect.
The action came 17 days after leaders of the Olero Creek oil field communities warned of possible disruption if their grievances were ignored. Community sources said the shutdown took effect in the early hours of December 23.
Chairman of the Olero Oil Field Communities, Dr. Roland Ukuesan, had previously accused Chevron, alongside the Federal and Delta State governments, of abandoning several host communities, including Ebrohimi, Obaghoro, Tebu, Gbokoda, Aja-Amita, Udo and Jakpa.
He said residents had continued to lack basic social amenities, urging urgent intervention to prevent further escalation.
