Singer Ifunanya Nwangene Dies After Snake Bite

Ifunanya Nwangene, a 26-year-old singer who emerged into the national spotlight through The Voice Nigeria in 2021, has died after a snake bite in Abuja. Her death occurred on Saturday and has drawn widespread grief from fans and colleagues in the creative industry.

The incident happened at her residence, where she was reportedly bitten while asleep. Footage later shared online showed a snake handler extracting a snake from the premises as frightened residents raised the alarm. Friends disclosed that two snakes were eventually found in the house.

Nwangene was first taken to a nearby clinic before being transferred to a hospital after it was discovered that antivenom was unavailable. According to Sam Ezugwu, co-founder of the Amemuso Choir, the hospital lacked one of the essential antivenoms needed for treatment. He said she struggled to breathe and could only communicate through hand movements before she passed away.

Her death was confirmed by the Amemuso Choir in a social media post, noting that she was a gifted soprano and a trained architect who had been preparing for her first solo concert. Friends say the loss has left the choir and the wider music community in deep shock.
