The Delta State Police Command has taken several suspects into custody following an attack on police officers along the disputed boundary between Akukwu-Igbo and Ugbolu communities in Oshimili North Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 31.
The arrests were confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who said the suspects are currently being held and have made statements aiding ongoing investigations. He added that efforts are continuing to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the incident.
In response to the attack, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, ordered the immediate deployment of additional operatives to the area to restore calm and prevent further escalation. The swift action resulted in a targeted operation that led to the arrest of the suspects.
The police commissioner warned that attacks on law enforcement officers would not be tolerated, stressing that no violent, extremist, or secessionist groups would be allowed to operate in the state. He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to take decisive action against anyone who threatens public peace.
The command assured residents of its commitment to maintaining security and protecting lives and property. Members of the public were encouraged to remain calm and support police efforts by providing credible information through appropriate channels as investigations continue.
