Senator Ali Ndume Alleges Tinubu’s Appointments Violate Federal Character
Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South in the Nigerian Senate, has voiced his concerns over what he perceives as a lack of balance in President Bola Tinubu’s political and federal appointments.
In an appearance on Arise TV, Ndume stated that, based on his observations, the President’s appointments so far have violated the Federal Character principle. The senator argued that the appointments appear to disproportionately favour one ethnic group or section of the country, which contradicts the guidelines set forth in the Federal Character Commission.

Ndume called for immediate action to address this issue, urging that the appointments be revised to ensure fairness and inclusivity in line with the country’s constitutional requirements. He emphasized the importance of equal representation from all regions and ethnic groups in the formation of government appointments.
The Federal Character principle is enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution to promote national unity by ensuring that no group is marginalized or overly favored in federal appointments. Ndume’s comments come as calls for a more inclusive government continue to grow across the country.
