Senate Sets Public Hearing on Proposed Anioma State
The House of Senate has scheduled a public hearing on the proposed creation of Anioma State for 4–5 July 2025 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The hearing follows the first and second readings of the bill sponsored by Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North.
Stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups are expected to present their views.

Senator Nwoko described the hearing as crucial, urging widespread participation. He said the move honours past efforts and reflects the collective aspiration of the Anioma people.
“This is a historical movement, not a personal ambition,” Nwoko said, citing the roles of late advocates like Sir Dennis Osadebe and Professor Chike Edozien.
He expressed confidence in the bill’s success, noting support from President Tinubu, the National Assembly, and several states across the South-South and South-East regions.
