Senate Orders Urgent Action over Safety Failures on Warri–Itakpe Rail Route

The Senate has ordered an immediate review and rehabilitation of the Warri–Itakpe rail corridor following multiple reports of derailments and mechanical faults along the route.

Raising the matter at plenary, Senator Ede Dafinone (Delta Central) warned that the worsening condition of the line poses serious danger to commuters and hampers economic activities tied to the rail network.

He called for comprehensive maintenance and for the rail link to be extended to Abuja to improve national connectivity.

After deliberation, lawmakers agreed to a full investigation into the corridor’s operations and mandated transport authorities to carry out urgent repairs to restore public confidence in the railway system.
