Security: Delta State Police Command Gets New Investigation Room and High-Tech Equipment

Abiwonda

The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has unveiled a modern investigation room and handed over equipment worth millions of naira to the state’s police command in a bid to strengthen law enforcement and enhance the administration of criminal justice.

The unveiling ceremony took place at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at the police headquarters in Asaba, the state capital. The governor was represented by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, who described the project as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to security and justice under the MORE Agenda (Meaningful, Outstanding, Realistic, and Effective Governance).

Speaking at the event, Ohwovoriole emphasised that a well-functioning justice system requires both skilled personnel and the right tools and infrastructure to support efficient policing. He said the new investigation room would provide police officers with an improved space to record statements, conduct interrogations, and ensure that investigations are carried out in accordance with the Delta State Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

“This facility strengthens the capacity of our police officers and reinforces our commitment to ensuring security in the state,” he said. “A secure Delta State is vital for economic growth and social stability.”

The initiative was supported by the Delta State Security Trust Fund, which played a crucial role in providing the necessary equipment. Mr. Samuel Osasa, the Executive Secretary of the Trust Fund, said the equipment would help address a key issue in the criminal justice system – the denial of confessional statements by suspects during court proceedings.

Osasa added that the new tools would aid police efforts in improving crime detection, prevention, and record management, thereby facilitating quicker and more effective law enforcement.

The donated equipment includes CCTV cameras, a six-channel DVR, desktop laptops, a finger scanning machine, an instant photo printer, Wi-Fi modems, and other accessories.

The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, thanked the state government for the support, saying the new facilities would help improve data management within the police force.
