Rivers Police Probe Machete Attack on Community Leader

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects linked to a brutal attack on the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman of Okana in Abua Central, Abua/Odual Local Government Area.

The victim, Christian Ediegene, reported that he was assaulted with machetes on his farm on June 29, 2025, after confronting a group mounting pillars on the land. In a voice note shared with journalists, Ediegene said the assailants inflicted deep cuts on his head, shoulder, and hand before fleeing.

Despite his injuries, the chairman managed to reach the roadside, where community members helped him to the police station and hospital. He is currently recovering and calling for justice.

Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrests of three suspects identified as Young Ezekiel, Isiah a.k.a Olito, and Onyekachi Paul. She noted that others involved in the attack are still on the run.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
