Rainstorm Brings Down Billboards Across Effurun, Warri Axis
A heavy rainstorm that swept across parts of Warri and Effurun late Monday night brought down several roadside billboards, leaving debris scattered along major routes and disrupting traffic in some areas.
One of the affected structures collapsed along Airport Road, now known as Sheriff Oborevwori Way, near the Greener Line axis in Effurun. The large billboard fell during the intense downpour, landing partly on the road and creating an obstruction for motorists until workers moved in to clear the debris.
Similar incidents were reported along Udu Road near Jigbale Market, where another billboard gave way under the force of the storm. Traders arriving for business on Tuesday morning met the structure lying on one side of the road, with part of its pole bent and resting on the median.
Residents also reported that other advertising structures were brought down in areas including Ajamimogha and nearby neighbourhoods during the overnight rainfall. Although no injuries or fatalities were recorded, the incidents have renewed calls for stricter monitoring of billboard installations to ensure they can withstand harsh weather conditions.
