Delta Govt Reviews Doctors’ Pay, Raises Entry Salary to ₦570,000

The Delta State Government has approved a new salary structure for medical doctors in the state’s public health sector, increasing the monthly pay of entry-level doctors to ₦570,000.

The adjustment represents a ₦200,000 rise from the previous ₦370,000 salary and is expected to take effect as part of efforts to address the growing migration of health professionals seeking better working conditions outside the state.

House officers also benefited from the review, with their salaries raised from ₦250,000 to ₦350,000, reflecting a ₦100,000 increase. The move comes amid concerns over the shortage of medical personnel within the state’s healthcare system.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, announced the development on Tuesday in Asaba during a press briefing held to mark World Health Day. He noted that the government remains focused on improving welfare for medical practitioners while strengthening healthcare delivery.

Officials further revealed that interest in health sector employment in the state remains high, with over 6,000 applicants recently competing for about 700 available positions. Authorities believe the new pay structure will help improve staff retention and boost morale among medical workers.
