President Tinubu Set to Announce New Ambassadors

President Bola Tinubu is expected to announce his list of new ambassadors in the coming weeks. This was made known by the President’s Senior Special Adviser on Foreign Affairs and Protocol, Ademola Oshodi in a television interview.
Oshodi revealed that the next steps will include Senate approval and the subsequent accreditation of the ambassadors for their foreign postings.

The delay in ambassadorial appointments has attracted criticism, particularly after President Tinubu recalled all Nigerian ambassadors in September 2023. In his early months in office, the President made the decision to recall more than 100 diplomats from their global missions. Since then, no new appointments have been made, leading to dissatisfaction among some quarters.

Oshodi defended the President’s actions, stating that the appointment process is still underway and pointing out that delays in ambassadorial appointments are not unusual. He cited the previous administration, which took 20 months to make similar appointments.
