President Tinubu Declares Nationwide Security Emergency

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency in response to rising attacks and insecurity across Nigeria. He has directed the police and army to recruit more personnel immediately.

The police will add 20,000 officers, increasing total recruitment to 50,000, while the army will also expand its forces. To speed up training, National Youth Service Corps camps will be used as additional training centers.

Officers withdrawn from VIP protection duties will receive rapid retraining for deployment in high-risk areas. The Department of State Services (DSS) has been ordered to deploy all trained forest guards to clear terrorists and bandits from forested regions and to recruit more personnel for this mission.

President Tinubu praised security agencies for the recent rescue of abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi and freed worshippers in Kwara State. He urged all Nigerians to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with security forces.

He also called on the National Assembly to review laws to allow states to establish their own police forces and encouraged states to improve security around boarding schools and religious centers.

Highlighting efforts to end clashes between herders and farmers, Tinubu urged herder groups to embrace ranching, surrender illegal weapons, and work with the government for lasting peace.

The President expressed condolences to families affected by recent attacks and honored fallen soldiers, including Brigadier-General Musa Uba.

He closed by urging Nigerians to remain calm and united in protecting the nation.
