Policeman Kills 17-Year-Old in Delta State
A police officer has reportedly shot and killed 17-year-old Emeka Odogwu in the Ozoro community of Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when police officers arrived after discovering that the victim was in possession of knockouts (fireworks).
According to reports, when the officers attempted to arrest Odogwu, he resisted and tried to flee. During his escape attempt, one of the officers allegedly opened fire, killing him.
Meanwhile, human rights group, Initiative for Social Rights Concerns and Advancement has condemned the killing. The group’s National Coordinator, Derrick Agberen, called for a full investigation by the Delta State Police Command and demanded that the officer responsible be held accountable.
Agberen also offered condolences to the family of the deceased and urged Nigerians, particularly members of the community, to remain calm and civil in their dealings with armed police officers.
