Peter Obi Joins ADC, Calls for Opposition Unity
Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections and ex-Governor of Anambra State, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He announced the move during a New Year address at Nike Lake Resort, Enugu, urging Nigerians and opposition forces to unite in a broad coalition to address the country’s challenges.
Obi criticized the current political leadership, accusing it of state capture, economic mismanagement, and the erosion of democratic values. He called on his political allies, the Obidient Movement, and opposition leaders nationwide to rally under the ADC banner. “History will not forgive silence in moments of national peril,” he emphasized.
Speaking on Nigeria’s current state, Obi said the country faces critical challenges, including widespread poverty and insecurity. He pointed out that over 130 million Nigerians live in multidimensional poverty, and more than 80 million youths are unemployed, highlighting the urgency of a united national effort.
As 2025 draws to a close, Obi framed his defection as part of a mission to rescue Nigeria from division and decline. He urged Nigerians to act decisively for a fresh start, marking this moment as pivotal for the nation’s future.
