“Performance Is the Only Ticket to Remain in Office,” Oborevwori Warns Commissioners

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has warned that only high-performing members of his cabinet will retain their positions, stating that loyalty and gossip will not guarantee job security.

The governor issued the warning during the commissioning of eight new duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba on Monday.

“There are a lot of rumours that I want to dissolve the Executive Council. These are just talks,” Mr Oborevwori said. “But let me be clear: if you’re not performing, we will drop you.”

He revealed that at least two or three commissioners are currently under scrutiny for under-performance and that he had already spoken directly to one of them.

Oborevwori emphasised that accountability would be central to his administration, stating that the success or failure of any ministry would be a direct reflection of its commissioner.

The comments come amid rumours of a possible cabinet shake-up, which the governor dismissed as unfounded.

Oborevwori also commissioned eight four-bedroom duplexes with boys’ quarters to address a housing shortfall for commissioners. Previously, only 22 residential units were available for a larger number of cabinet members.

The Dean of Commissioners and Finance Commissioner, Fidelis Tilije, appreciated the governor and appealed for the renovation of the older buildings. Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Angele, hailed the project as a step towards enhancing the welfare of government officials.

The governor disclosed that more development projects are planned across the state and would be commissioned in batches in the coming months.
