Paystack Suspends Co-Founder Ezra Olubi Over Misconduct Claim

Paystack has suspended its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following a sexual misconduct allegation involving a subordinate that surfaced on social media this week. The Stripe-owned Nigerian payments company confirmed the suspension and said a formal internal investigation is underway.

In a statement, Paystack said it takes matters of this nature extremely seriously and that Olubi has been relieved of all duties pending the outcome of the probe. The company added that it will not provide further comment until the investigation concludes.

The allegation gained traction after a Nigerian tech publication reported on dozens of Olubi’s old social media posts dating back more than a decade. The resurfaced tweets, shared between 2009 and 2013, included sexually explicit remarks, references to a coworker’s body, and comments involving minors. One tweet from 2011 read: “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.”

Olubi co-founded Paystack in 2015 with CEO Shola Akinlade, and the company became one of Africa’s major tech success stories after its acquisition by Stripe in 2020. The controversy has ignited widespread debate online about workplace culture and accountability across the Nigerian tech sector.
