Ozoro Monarch Denounces Abuse Allegations, Warns Against Misinformation

The Ovie of Ozoro Kingdom, HRM Anthony Uvietobore Ogbogbo, Ibuka I, has strongly condemned all forms of violence, harassment, and intimidation against women, following reports and online narratives surrounding events in the community on March 19, 2026.

In a statement issued on Sunday, March 22, the Monarch described the reported harassment of two young women as disturbing, unacceptable, and contrary to the values and traditions of Ozoro Kingdom and the wider Isoko nation.

His Palace firmly rejected claims circulating on social media suggesting that acts such as rape or widespread violence were endorsed or tolerated within the Kingdom. It described such allegations as false and misleading, warning that they could incite tension and damage the cultural reputation of the community.

Providing context, the monarch explained that Ozoro Kingdom consists of five autonomous communities, each with its own customs and festivals. He noted that on the day in question, the Uruamudhu Community held the traditional Alue-Do Festival, a long-standing cultural event associated with fertility blessings.

While acknowledging that the festival includes symbolic and culturally specific practices, the monarch stressed that such traditions do not permit harassment, coercion, or any form of abuse. He made it clear that any individual or group using cultural gatherings as a cover for misconduct or criminal acts is acting against both tradition and the law.

The Palace expressed full support for security agencies investigating the incident and called for those responsible to be identified, arrested, and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent.

It also urged residents and visitors to respect cultural practices responsibly, emphasizing that traditions must always align with the rule of law, public decency, and fundamental human rights.

Additionally, the statement also called on the public and media to verify information before sharing, cautioning against the spread of unconfirmed or sensational claims that could escalate tensions or harm the community’s image.
