Onyeme Awards ₦140m Scholarship Fund to Delta North Students

The 2025 edition of the Monday Onyeme Foundation Scholarship Scheme reached a major milestone in Asaba as 683 students received cheques amounting to more than ₦140 million. The initiative, launched in 2017, has continued to expand its footprint, becoming one of Delta North’s most consistent education-support platforms.

This year’s event drew notable political and education figures, who boosted the programme by presenting extra cash gifts of ₦50,000 to ₦200,000 to high-performing students. Since its inception, the foundation has supported over 2,500 beneficiaries, reinforcing Sir Monday Onyeme’s long-standing emphasis on human capital development and the role of education in reducing poverty.

Speaking to the beneficiaries, the Deputy Governor urged them to uphold strong character, stay committed to their studies and return value to their communities in future. He also highlighted the state government’s broader youth-development focus under the MORE Agenda, noting that the scholarship scheme aligns with those priorities.

Goodwill messages from the Higher Education Commissioner, Prof. John Tonukari, and the Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University applauded the foundation’s steady progress. Top scorers from Delta North’s federal constituencies received upgraded prizes, with overall best student Osemeke Deborah taking home ₦600,000 as students pledged to strive for excellence.
