Olu of Warri Commissions Renewed Hope Mother and Child Hospital in Warri

The Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, has commissioned the Renewed Hope Mother and Child Specialist Hospital in Ugbuwangue, Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State. The 80-bed government-built facility was officially handed over to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Asaba for management during a ceremony held amid the Olu’s ongoing week-long coronation anniversary celebrations.

The hospital was constructed by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs).

Warri South Local Government Chairman, Comrade Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, welcomed the new hospital as a crucial development that would help reduce maternal and child mortality in the Niger Delta. He stated that the project was a practical demonstration of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, pledging that local authorities would continue to support its growth. The commissioning ceremony also saw the presence of key figures including Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Johnson Erijo, and community stakeholders alongside youths from the area.

During the ceremony, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire said the hospital is a significant step towards achieving Nigeria’s Sustainable Development Goal 3, which focuses on good health and well-being. She acknowledged the cooperation of the Delta State Government and the Olu of Warri, who provided the land for the facility. The hospital features modern medical amenities, including operating theatres, recovery rooms, consulting spaces, and diagnostic equipment, designed to offer quality healthcare services to mothers and children.

Dr Mary Alile Idele, Chairman of FMC Asaba’s Board, outlined the hospital’s capacity to serve around 25,000 patients each year, reducing the financial burden on families who previously had to travel far for treatment. More than 150 healthcare jobs have been created, with additional opportunities expected through local supply chains. There were calls for further investments in solar power, diagnostic tools, ambulance services, and morgue facilities to ensure the hospital’s sustainability and enhance its impact on the community.
